Fall Movies I’m Excited About!

25 Aug

Summer movie season is coming to an end. Awwwwwww. BUT, I must say I’m QUITE excited about this Fall’s selection. Here are some of the films I’m anticipating:

1) “Jennifer’s Body” starring Megan Fox & Amanda Seyfried

I completely understand Megan Fox’s appeal to men … I just personally don’t think she’s THAT hot. But whatever — my desire to see this film just proves my theory that vampires are taking over our screens. This is another film brought to us by the quirky Diablo Cody (Juno). It looks like one of those scary movies that KNOWS it’s a scary movie, so pansies like me can rest assured that I’ll at least get to laugh:

2) “Broken Embraces” starring Penelope Cruz

I think I’ve actively tried NOT to like Penelope Cruz … I can’t remember why, but I’ve failed. I have loved sooooo many movies that she’s been in (Vanilla Sky, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Elegy) and I realize now it’s actually because of her. This Spanish film seems like its no exception, stylistically it looks badass. Check out the trailer to get a glimpse of what I’m talking about …

3) “An Education” starring Peter Saarsgard and Carey Mulligan

I’ve heard a LOT of buzz surrounding this film and its young female star, Carey Mulligan. Apparently, her performance was so brilliant that she’s been picked up for SEVERAL other major projects even before this film premiered. Plot: In the post-war, pre-Beatles London suburbs, a bright schoolgirl is torn between studying for a place at Oxford and the more exciting alternative offered to her by a charismatic older man.

4) “No Impact Man” a Documentary

I love a good challenge documentary and I love the environment. This funny documentary takes a look at a man who convinces his unwilling family to reduce their carbon footprint to ZERO. It kind of makes me want to try it myself:

I’ve already mentioned my excitement about Fame 2009, Black Dynamite and Nine, starring Daniel Day Lewis and an all-star cast. For a full list of the Fall 2009 Movie Schedule, click here.

I like Penelope in Spanish Language Films. She shines in them, especially her work with Almodovar (whom I love). I think her talents get lost in translation when it come to English speaking films.
