MY BLOG CIRCLE: Tyler Perry to Direct, Adapt & Produce “For Colored Girls …” AND Whitney Kills a Classic
4 Sep
Every Friday (when I can), I’ve decided to bring together some of my favorite posts from some of my favorite blogs. I just started doing this TODAY, so you’re right on time. Here we go:
i) In EXTREME WTF News, Tyler Perry is going to be producing and directing Ntozake Shange’s classic choreopoem, “For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Wasn’t Enuf.” In the words of Chris Brown, “Like, Wow.” What. The. Fuck. I happened to work for New Federal Theatre, the first theatre in NY to premiere Ntozake Shange’s play. I wonder how she feels about this. Weigh in on the discussion and surprise over at Shadow & Act.
ii) On that same subject, Invisible Woman tries to see the bright side in all of this. Maybe this will be Tyler Perry’s FINAL chance to prove himself as a director and connoisseur of theatre. After all, think of how much publicity this is going to get and how many black female actresses will be employed?
iii) Proper Talks is super good at blasting hypocrisy. Have you downloaded your leaked album of Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint 3″? Well the L.A. Times has, AND they reviewed it early. What’s the hypocrisy? Read about it here.
iv) Max Reddick ALWAYS drops knowledge, most often based on personal experiences, and his writing style is pretty damn remarkable. Every time I go to his blog, I know I’m going to read something good. When did we all get so paranoid about helping one other these days? What goes through your mind when a random stranger asks you for help? Read about his experience here.
v) I love following my fellow filmmakers, especially when they’re overseas. Must Love Movies always gives me a cultural taste of her adventures in Korea. Have you ever tried silkworms and chicken feet? Check out her review.
vi) Whatlookslikecrazy is another relatively new and favorite blog of mine. She tells it like it is and I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed with anything she’s said. Like about Whitney’s AWFUL techno remake of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You.” Whitney, I want you to succeed, because it’s hard to come back from crack, but please use proper judgment.

Thanks for the blog love! OMG, I saw that Tyler Perry was adapting “For Colored Girls” earlier this week, and I really thought it was a joke, so I didn’t even click on the link. The Invisible Woman’s take on it was very zen. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what he does with this one.
The only thing worse than Tyler Perry producing this film would be Beyonce acting it. Either way. I’m scared and very, very sad. (The girl is talented, but like Perry, would be in wayyyy over her head)
*acting in it. i hate typos. tis all.
thanks my blog sis—i updated it as well…he is really gonna have to bring it on this one or there will be massive fallout from the masses…
me? meh. i’m focusing on the up and comers…
Hey, I didn’t see this. Thanks for the link love! And thank you for the generous compliment.
